What is a
Certified Athletic Trainer
anyway?
A Certified Athletic Trainer is a medical professional. We work largely with athletes, taking care of injuries and covering any age or sport. The everyday work is doing whatever your athletes need – from injury prevention and first aid care to injury rehabilitation and help with nutrition and mental health. A Certified Athletic Trainer always works to maximize an athlete’s performance opportunities while taking care of their health.

About Deniece
Deniece sustained a serious sport-related knee injury in high school which sparked her interest in sports medicine. She became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in 1994 and completed her Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science in 1997. She has worked with athletes of many ages and in many sports from rec league level to semi-pro. She has been the Head Athletic Trainer over Brigham Young University’s Extramural Sports for the last 26 years, working particularly with Men’s Soccer.
Deniece often has friends and family approach her with questions about injuries and come by for needed treatment. She decided to write Sports Medicine for Moms to share her useful knowledge with many other parents who want to find the best way to take care of their active kids, and keep sports injuries from turning into more difficult problems later in life.
